Miss Penny Claisse BSc (Hons) MChS

Penny Claisse graduated from Southampton University in 2001. She specialises in Biomechanics and Orthotic Therapy and initially worked in musculoskeletal clinics at the NHS North Hampshire, Andover and Odstock Hospitals and then developed her private practice in hospitals and sports injury clinics in Swindon, Oxford, Winchester, Basingstoke and Eastleigh. Lecturing and research has always been important to her and she has published in national and international journals. She treats adults of all ages and activities including amateur and professional sportsmen/women such as: members of the Oxford University Varsity Rugby Team, Hampshire County Cricket Club and Team GB sailors. She enjoys working with children and young adults and is a member of the Podopaediatrics Special Interest Group.  Her professional development is ongoing and she continually updates her skills.

Penny aims to reduce stress in the feet and lower limbs while adopting a ‘whole body’ approach and working closely with other members of the clinical team. At an initial appointment a detailed history is taken followed by a biomechanical assessment and gait analysis. Advice on exercises and footwear is usually combined with treatment using customised, trial 'orthotics' (contoured insoles that fit inside most supportive everyday and training shoes) prepared at the appointment, to ensure an immediate improvement in foot and lower limb alignment.  Following this, plaster impressions can be taken of the feet and sent to a laboratory to prepare very durable custom 'orthotics' that are often the solution to effective pain relief in the long term.
